Caroline Goulding, Violin, Series II Concerts

Although only 15 years old, violinist Caroline Goulding is already a veteran soloist – appearing with such prestigious orchestras as the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, the Cleveland Orchestra, The Cleveland Women’s Orchestra, the Lakeside Symphony Orchestra, and the International Symphony Orchestra.

Caroline often appears in recital as well, traveling from New York City to Chicago, Illinois, where she recently performed for the Stradivari Society.  She has also entranced listeners on WCLV radio in Ohio and television audiences nationwide on such shows as The Today Show, Martha and PBS’s From the Top Live from Carnegie Hall, in a performance with virtuoso banjo player Bela Fleck.  In fact, Caroline – described by Donald Rosenberg of the Cleveland Plain Dealer as a “diminutive 14-year old with a massive talent” – so captivated From the Top’s viewers that the program has booked her for an encore appearance on August 5, 2007.

Musical experts and professionals are as impressed by Caroline as her audiences are. During summer 2006, she won First Place at the Aspen Music Festival’s Violin Concerto Competition, performing Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto.  What is especially noteworthy about this honor is that Caroline, only 13 years old at the time, was by far the youngest musician to compete.  In fact, she was the second youngest winner in 55 years.  Caroline later performed the concerto with the Aspen Music Festival's Concert Orchestra -- under the direction of Peter Oundjian, Music Director of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra.

Caroline’s winning streak has continued unabated.  She has won the Cleveland Youth Orchestra’s Concerto Competition and, in April 2007, was one of only 10 musicians selected to take part in the Starling-DeLay Symposium on Violin Studies sponsored by the renowned Juilliard School.

Caroline began studying the violin when she was three years old, under the tutelage of Julia Kurtyka in Port Huron, Michigan.  Since that time, she has relocated from Michigan to Cleveland Heights, Ohio, to study with the renowned pedagogue Paul Kantor at the Cleveland Institute of Music.  In addition to the Starling-Delay Symposium, the promising young violinist has attended the Interlochen Center for the Arts and The Ceilidh Trail School of Celtic Music on Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia.

Caroline Goulding plays an ex Lobkowicz by A&H Amati, 1617, Cremona violin, through the generous efforts of The Stradivari Society of Chicago.
