Meet the ACO Musicians - Janet Clippard

Janet1.  Where were you born?  Tell us a little about your youth and upbringing?
Cincinnati, Ohio.  My Father was a Pan American pilot.  We travelled a lot.

2.  Earliest musical memories?

Our Swedish au pair constantly playing the Beatles’ “We All live in a Yellow Submarine.”  She sang with it.  Not too musical.    

3.  Your education?  Where did you attend college, primary teachers?
Bachelor of Music- University of Miami- Lucas Drew, teacher.
Post-Graduate- Guildhall School of Music and Drama (London, UK)- Thomas Martin, teacher.
Mozarteum Academy- Professional Course- Alfred Bergschwenter, teacher.

4.  Why did you choose your instrument?
I only knew of the violin or the bass and I did not want to play the melody all the time.  A liked “the other part.”    

5.  When did you know you wanted to be a professional musician?
I was going to be an orchestra musician as soon as I picked up the bass in the sixth grade.

6.  Who were/are your most important musical influences?
Of course, my teachers.

7.  Most inspiring composers?

8.  What would you be if not a musician?
Retired.

9.  Your favorite thing about playing in the ACO?
After playing in a large orchestra, it is a welcome change to play in a more intimate group.  It is fun.

10.  With what other ensembles for you perform/where do you teach?
Miami City Ballet.

11.  What is in your CD player right now?

My CD player is broken.

12.  What do you like to do outside of work/hobby/pastimes?

Travel.

13.  Anything else particularly interesting or enlightening you would like to share?

Life continues to change.  You never know what is around the corner.
