1. Where were you born? Tell us a little about your youth and upbringing?
I was born in Belgrade, Serbia. Everyone in my family is a musician. Mom was an opera singer, my grandma taught Music Theory for 40 years and grandpa was a composer and conductor.
2. Earliest musical memories?
Sitting at the piano with my grandpa, singing. There was often the entire assembly of the family and even the dog, listening to my first "performances".
3. Your education? Where did you attend college, primary teachers?
I got my Undergraduate at Southern Methodist University in Dallas and my Master's at Northwestern in Chicago. I played with the Civic Orchestra of Chicago and the New World Symphony, prior to winning a job with the Florida Philharmonic.
4. Why did you choose your instrument?
I started playing both - the violin and the piano at the age of 5. I did not like the piano (too many fingers/keys) so I chose the violin at age 7.
5. When did you know you wanted to be a professional musician?
I do not think that there was ever a doubt. It just seemed like the most natural thing to do for me.
6. Who were/are your most important musical influences?
My family, growing up. After that, I have been fortunate to be surrounded by great quality and inspiring people in school and in the orchestra I played with.
7. Most inspiring composers?
As far as I am concerned, there is nothing better than a big symphonic sound. I love playing symphonies by Mahler, Brahms, Shostakovich, etc, and Strauss Tone Poems to name a few.
8. What would you be if not a musician?
At one point, I seriously considered going to medical school, so probably something to do with science or numbers.
9. Your favorite thing about playing in the ACO?
It is a very nice and relaxed environment. I also enjoy the programming - it is a very nice balance.
10. With what other ensembles do you perform/where do you teach?
I teach at Barry University and play with the Palm Beach Opera, Palm Beach Symphony, Boca Symphonia and a few other ensembles.
11. What is in your CD player right now?
Mahler 9, The Meters, Radiohead.
12. What do you like to do outside of work/hobby/pastime(s)?
I love to travel as much as possible. I really miss having mountains around, so I try to get out west to hike or ski once or twice a year.
